Baptist Hospital Achieves Magnet® Recognition for the sixth time reinforcing its commitment to nursing excellence and patient care
MIAMI, FL— July 8, 2022 – Baptist Hospital, part of Baptist Health South Florida, has attained Magnet recognition for the sixth consecutive time, a testament to its continued dedication to high-quality nursing practice. The designation, awarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program®, is the nation’s highest form of accolades for nursing excellence and a benchmark for the quality of care patients receive.
Baptist Hospital is part of less than 1 percent of hospitals in the nation to receive a sixth designation. It was the first in the State of Florida to receive the prestigious Magnet recognition in 1998 and remains the only one in the state to receive this honor six times in a row.
“Magnet recognition is widely accepted as the gold standard of nursing excellence and a benchmark for patient care,” said Bill Ulbricht, chief executive officer of Baptist Hospital. “It is an incredible honor, and it reflects our promise of delivering the highest quality of care to this community.”
The Magnet Model provides a framework for nursing practice, research and measurement of outcomes. Through this framework, ANCC evaluates applicants across several components and dimensions to gauge an organization’s nursing excellence. The foundation of this model includes various elements deemed essential to delivering superior patient care. These include the quality of nursing leadership, coordination and collaboration across specialties, as well as processes for measuring and improving the quality and delivery of care.
“Baptist Hospital’s sixth designation once again illustrates our continued commitment to delivering compassionate patient care, outstanding quality outcomes and teamwork,” said Harold Girado, MSN, R.N., NE-BC, vice president and chief nursing officer of Baptist Hospital. “It is a testament to not only our incredible nurses, but to our entire staff that works tirelessly to meet the health care needs of all we serve.”
An organization seeking to reapply for Magnet recognition must provide documented evidence of how Magnet concepts, performance and quality were sustained and improved over a four-year period. Health care organizations must reapply for Magnet recognition every four years based on adherence to Magnet concepts and demonstrated improvements in patient care and quality.
