James and Marta Batmasian Make $1 Million Gift to Boca Raton’s Keeping the Promise Capital Campaign

July 11, 2023
BOCA RATON, FL – July 11, 2023 – Philanthropists James and Marta Batmasian have made a $1 million gift to Keeping the Promise…The Campaign for Boca Raton Regional Hospital. The gift will be acknowledged with the naming of an iconic sculpture to be located within the new Hagerty Courtyard entitled “Drift.”

“James and Marta moved to Boca Raton 40 years ago, and we are eternally grateful they made that choice,” said Lincoln Mendez, North Region Executive of Baptist Health and CEO of Boca Raton Regional Hospital. “We know of their outstanding generosity to so many causes and feel honored and privileged they selected Boca Raton Regional Hospital to be among them.  It is a commitment we will always cherish, and we are fortunate to count them among our family of donors.”

The Batmasians are founders of one of the largest family-owned real estate investment firms in the United States. Investments Limited, a sole proprietorship, has grown throughout the decades to encompass retail, residential and commercial properties. The company originated in Cambridge, Massachusetts, expanding into South Florida in the 80s. After relocating to Boca Raton in 1983, the Batmasians had the foresight to begin investing in local shopping centers, amassing properties within their first few years in town. Today, they are among the largest landowners in the County. With a billion-dollar empire reaching from New England to South Florida, the Batmasians have made their mark as two of the country’s most dedicated and successful entrepreneurs.

“We have said that we pledge to give much of our wealth to community enrichment causes, so that together we can share in leaving the world a better place than when we entered it,” said Mr. Batmasian.  “We believe that investment in cultural, educational and recreational endeavors produce healthy and thriving communities that benefit society.  This hospital is a great example of an organization enriching a community.  We are happy to play a role in this spectacular campus initiative.”

James and Marta Batmasian currently support more than 65 organizations. They dedicate their personal time and efforts and serve as Board members for several nonprofits, including some outside the US; they also serve on a variety of committees. Causes near and dear to their hearts include helping youth living in economically depressed areas get an education, with many going on to college, and improving the plight of the homeless.
“We have great respect for James and Marta, and their tireless efforts to enhance people’s lives,” said Stan Barry, Foundation Chairman and co-chair of Keeping the Promise campaign.  “Their gifts represent so much more than dollars. They invest time, energy, and an endless resource of spirit.  We thank them for the work they do through the James H & Marta T Batmasian Family Foundation.  These are special, wonderful people.”

The Keeping the Promise Campaign continues to soar thanks to the Batmasian’s generosity and the continued commitment of the Boca Raton community. With the $250 million goal now reached, the hospital continues to seek support from the community to meet the increasing health care needs of the growing patient population.

The $250 million Keeping the Promise Campaign is the largest fund-raising initiative in Boca Regional’s history and is supporting its most ambitious period of growth and expansion.  The campus redevelopment plans include the Gloria Drummond Patient Tower and a Critical Care Tower where patients will be welcomed in the inviting new Louis B. and Anne W. Green Lobby with plans for retail, dining, meeting space, a sanctuary, outdoor courtyards and other conveniences for visitors.  The project features all private patient rooms exceeding the latest safety standards for patient care. In the current hospital building, all existing rooms will be converted to private in a comprehensive renovation of all patient units including maternity, oncology, and orthopedics. An expansion of the Marcus Neuroscience Institute is now completed with an emphasis on stroke, central nervous system tumors, spine, and epilepsy.  The 972-car Schmidt Family Parking Facility will be connected to the Marcus Neuroscience Institute once the new tower construction is complete. Also included in the plans is the new Toby and Leon Cooperman Medical Arts Pavilion, to be located across the street from the hospital will be home to our Orthopedic Institute with an outpatient surgery center and physician specialty offices all opening at the end of 2023.
