The Sands Family Foundation and Constellation Brands Donate a Second $1 Million Gift In Support of Boca Regional’s Keeping the Promise Capital Campaign

September 1, 2022

BOCA RATON, FL – September 1, 2022 – The Sands Family Foundation and Constellation Brands have made another joint $1 million gift to Keeping the Promise…The Campaign for Boca Raton Regional Hospital. The Sands’ latest generosity brings the Keeping the Promise total raised to more than $236 million toward its goal of $250 million, including 45 donors who have given seven and eight-figure gifts.

“There is no greater endorsement for our vision, mission, and strategic plans than donors who make multiple gifts to the same capital campaign,” said Lincoln Mendez, CEO of Boca Raton Regional Hospital, part of Baptist Health. “The Sands Family Foundation and Constellation Brands have quickly become steady and resolved Boca Regional family members, and we are extremely fortunate Rob Sands shares his knowledge and leadership as a trustee on our Foundation Board. We could not be more grateful for their support.”

The Sands’ generosity has been recognized by naming a Hybrid Operating Suite, a part of the Christine E. Lynn Heart & Vascular Institute in the new Marilyn and Stanley Barry Center for Surgical Services.

Rob Sands is executive chair of Constellation Brands, a leading total beverage alcohol company founded in Canandaigua, New York, the family’s hometown.  He joined the company in 1986 and served as its CEO from 2007 until 2019.  In his current role, he is responsible for providing strategic leadership, working with the board of directors and the chief executive officer to establish long-range goals, strategies, plans and policies.  He is a proud graduate of the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University in New York and has recently been named chair of the school’s Board of Trustees.

The Sands Family Foundation has been extraordinarily philanthropic and is an active supporter in the areas of healthcare, education and the arts.  For many years, Rochester, New York and the Finger Lakes have felt the positive impact of their presence.

In Boca Raton, Mr. Sands has been an active and committed trustee on the Boca Raton Regional Hospital Foundation Board. The Sands Family Foundation and Constellation Brands have been tournament sponsors for the annual golf outing for the past three years, and also underwrote the 2019 inaugural Glow Red Golf Tournament to benefit the Christine E. Lynn Heart & Vascular Institute. Rob and his wife Pamela have chosen to focus their philanthropic pursuits in Boca Raton largely on healthcare. This is rooted in their belief that a healthy population is the backbone of a vibrant community.

“Rob and Pamela believe strongly in making a difference in their communities, and are deeply committed to the future of healthcare in Boca Raton and the region,” said Stan Barry, chairman of the Boca Raton Regional Hospital Foundation and co-chair of the Keeping the Promise campaign. “Members of their family have utilized the hospital over time and have demonstrated their gratitude for their care with significant generosity.  We cannot express enough thanks for their partnership with us.”

The $250 million Keeping the Promise campaign is the largest campaign in the hospital’s history. It is supporting the most ambitious period of growth and expansion for Boca Raton Regional Hospital. The campus redevelopment plans include at the centerpiece, the new Gloria Drummond Patient Tower where patients will be welcomed in the inviting new Louis B. and Anne W. Green Lobby with plans for retail, dining, meeting space, a sanctuary and other conveniences for visitors. The new tower features all new surgical suites and all private patient rooms exceeding the latest safety standards for patient care. An expansion of the Marcus Neuroscience Institute is underway with an emphasis on neurovascular/stroke, central nervous system and epilepsy/seizure disorders.

In the current hospital building, all existing rooms will be converted to private in a comprehensive renovation of all patient units. The  972-car Schmidt Family Parking Facility will be connected to the main hospital once construction is complete. Also included in the plans is the new Toby and Leon Cooperman Medical Arts Pavilion, to be located across the street from the hospital with an outpatient surgery center, physician offices and additional parking. These investments are the initial steps toward an even broader vision for the campus with greater access points and even more specialties.
